James Nuttall and Book Port

Hello my name is James Nuttall. My interest is in self education. As part of myself education, I like to read a lot of books. As an individual with dyslexia, I got through college with all of my books being read to me. Later, I became legally blind and was no longer able to read print at all. So, I had to get all of my books on tape. One of the major sources of books was the National Library Of Congress books on tape program for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. But of course my reading was limited by what books were available on tape. Since my interest is generally in technology and and how technology changes society, there was very little available for me to read in this area.

Then came a great device for reading. This device is called the Book Port from American Printing House for the Blind. This device has a built-in text-to-speech chip which could read both text and Word documents for you. So, now I am able to scan books on my computer using the OptiBook 3600 scanner. I'll post later about this scanner. After I scan a book, I change it into text files by chapter. I then download them onto my Book Port. The Book Port then reads me the book. Since obtaining this device, I've been able to read dozens of books of my own interest. This is just to let people know that this device is a godsend and is also just really cool.

Here is a URL and picture for the Book Port
